Why A Big Law Firm Is Not Better – Four Tips For Finding The Best Workers Compensation Lawyer

• Jul 3rd, 2013

Sometimes big is a good thing like when you can go to Walmart and meet all of your shopping needs, groceries, clothing, auto supplies, etc.  However, big is not better when hiring a lawyer to represent you in an auto accident or workers compensation claim.

You have been injured in an auto accident or suffered a work injury and need a lawyer.  But, you have never had a lawyer before and have no idea how to find one.  So many people see an advertisement on television for a lawyer and call that lawyer’s firm.  What you need to know is that advertising lawyers are paying lots and lots of money to place their ads on television or to buy billboards.  In order to pay for that advertising the law firm must carry a volume of cases.   To service those cases the firm must have numbers of support staff, which means that you will not have the special attention that you deserve for you personal injury or workers compensation claim.  Beware of the Walmart approach when it comes to finding a lawyer to represent you in your workers’ compensation or personal injury claim.

The best workers compensation lawyers are engaged with you and your case at every step of the claim.

If you have been injured on the job you will need a lawyer that will actually talk to you beyond the initial consultation.  The best workers compensation lawyers are engaged with you and your case at every step of the claim.  You will need advice and you need the lawyer to give it to you, not the secretary.  With workers compensation claims the insurance company is constantly communicating with the doctor and the employer to minimize the financial expense of the claim.  Your lawyer must be one step ahead of the insurance company and in order to stay proactive and not reactive the lawyer must have a manageable caseload.  It is impossible to be effective if you have 150 workers’ compensation cases.

So, how do you find a workers compensation lawyer who will talk to you and work for you and not just pass you off to a team of paralegals?

  1. Ask for a recommendation from people you know that had a good experience with an attorney.
  2. Research the lawyer!  Don’t just call a lawyer that you saw on television and assume that you will get the best possible representation because they seem big.  You are better served by a workers compensation lawyer who talks to you personally and who receives most of his or her cases from referrals from satisfied clients, not from spending money on television or billboard advertising.
  3. Ask questions and don’t just accept the initial sale’s pitch.  A good workers compensation attorney will not make monetary promises about what your case is worth.
  4. Trust your gut.  You know when you feel good about a person or when you feel just a little uncomfortable.  If you feel good when you meet with the lawyer then move forward.  If your internal radar is giving you pause then trust that innate wisdom and keep searching for the right lawyer to represent your interest.  It is important that you trust your lawyer.  If you need a workers’ compensation lawyer contact Sunne Law for a free consultation.
